Holocaust

Holocaust Memorial, Berlin

The Holocaust (also called Shoah in Hebrew) refers to the period from January 30, 1933, when Adolf Hitler became chancellor of Germany, to May 8, 1945 (VE Day), when the war in Europe ended. During this time, Jews in Europe were subjected to progressively harsh persecution that ultimately led to the murder of 6,000,000 Jews (1.5 million of these being children) and the destruction of 5,000 Jewish communities. These deaths represented two-thirds of European Jewry and one-third of world Jewry. The Jews who died were not casualties of the fighting that ravaged Europe during World War II. Holocaust is important to us today because we need to learn how difficult for those who were the victims was. We are learning about this topic so that we will not let it happend again. Everytime when I look at it, it's just sad. I can't believe how human can hurt others so much by doing that. We all should accpet other and help each other out.

This is a serene and moving photo. I agree, it is important to pay attention to this topic. I would be interested to learn more about why you chose this photo to go on this post.

Your focus on the nazi concetration camp is really brilliant. the videos about the concetration camp was really good and it went direct to the topic, i think the videos show more of what happened in the camps.

The picture with the boxes upon boxes was really sort of scary to look at. Just the number of them alone givves me the creeps. I'm not liking the photo. Not at all. It's a good photo about the Holocaust, but i don't like what is happening here.
